Prime Minister Golob: "The Slovenian language is the core of our national identity"
SLOVENIA, October 14 - In his address, Prime Minister Golob thanked the institute for inviting him to join them in commemorating this important anniversary. "This anniversary is not just about celebrating the past, but also looking proudly to the future. I believe that the Slovenian language is the core of our national identity," he said.
The Prime Minister went on to say that he and Minister of Culture Asta Vrečko had already taken steps to ensure that the institute would receive support. "The Fran Ramovš Institute of the Slovenian Language is venerable in age, and I am confident that it will continue its work with the same vigour for the next 80 years, provided it has the right conditions. It is up to us to strive to create these conditions," he stressed.
The Prime Minister highlighted that one of the priorities of this government is to ensure the proper presence of the Slovenian language online. "We have been working systematically to give the Slovenian language equal visibility online. This is particularly important for the future, for younger generations. Today, a language is alive when it lives online, and Slovenian certainly does," he said.
The Prime Minister praised the work of the institute, particularly its projects aimed at engaging younger audiences. "I greatly value all the efforts the institute invests not only in research but also in working with young people. Applications such as Franček clearly show your strong awareness of the importance of preserving the Slovenian language, especially among the younger generations," he stressed.
In conclusion, the Prime Minister expressed his sincere gratitude to the institute for its dedicated work and underlined the importance of its mission. "I believe that the combination of all this – your efforts, your dedication and our shared understanding – forms a strong foundation to ensure that the Slovenian language will continue to remain our core, our intimacy and our future," concluded Prime Minister Robert Golob.
The Fran Ramovš Institute of the Slovenian Language at ZRC SAZU is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year. Over the decades, it has become one of the key pillars of the Slovenian language and one of the most recognised institutions in Europe and the world, both in linguistic research and in the development of language resources.
